We have long since known that our customers are the very best! It is because of them that we continue to be here in this little town doing what we love to do. And so, we are very excited to share another customer spotlight today! This is such a fun spotlight, because it includes the parents and grandparents (Steve and Carolyn Skinner), and each of their kids, who now have families of their own. This extended family loves spending time camping together, and all together, have bought six trailers from C&R! They have shared lots of pictures from their camping adventures, and it was so fun looking through them and to see all of the great memories they are making as a family!
Another reason we have been excited for this spotlight is because like us, the Skinner family also owns a small, family business. They have been amazing customers of ours, and we are excited to be working closely with Skinner Excavating as they are currently doing the excavation work for our new location in Elwood. As residents of Box Elder County, it is wonderful to be able to work with local families and other small businesses as we all work hard to keep doing what we love.
You’re going to love meeting the Skinner family!
Steve and Carolyn, introduce us to your family!
We have four children. Each of our children now have families of their own, so our family has grown to 8 children and 8 grandchildren! Steve has been in the construction industry for 47 years. We moved to Bothwell (a rural community just west of Tremonton) almost 10 years ago!
Why did you decide to invest in a trailer? Is it something new to your family or is it something you’ve always done?
Steve grew up camping the western movie way. . .in the woods. . .under the stars. . living off the land! I grew up camping in a nice trailer, where my parents took care of everything and I played, swam, fished, and roamed to my hearts content. After marriage, there just wasn’t time for camping in my mind. Having spent many summers going to Young Women’s camp as a youth leader for our church, I just wasn’t in the mood to camp :). Then one day, Steve purchased a used fifth wheel trailer from C&R so some of our employees would have a place to stay while they were working remotely. I had the opportunity to take that trailer to a Young Women’s camp that year, and it changed my opinion on camping!
How has your trailer changed the way your family spends time together? Where are your favorite places to take your trailer?
After upgrading a few times, (because every time you go into C&R, Ronnie or Chris have “something they need to show you”), we feel like we have a great RV that meets our needs – whether camping on the family property in the mountains of Idaho or road tripping to other areas. We have spent time in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, and Wyoming. Our favorite place is being together with our family, enjoying good food (especially anything that can be cooked over the campfire with a stick), spending time with the grandchildren, and sitting around the campfire sharing stories and “talents”. We feel like having our family property is a wonderful way to share our work ethic with our grandchildren. There are always projects to complete: fencing, cutting, hauling wood, checking cows, and anything else we can think up to keep the kids busy!
This is the first extended family spotlight we have done, and are so excited to have each of your children share their experiences as well. We love that camping is obviously a family affair for your entire family!
James and Tina Skinner: We are newer residents to Box Elder County. Tina camped as a kid, and I (James) have always had a love for the outdoors so it was a perfect fit for us to camp together after our marriage. We like the opportunity to spend time with family members that we don’t normally see as often. For us, the change of atmosphere from home and work life to going camping is always so refreshing. We love to go to the family property in Idaho. Having an RV opens up a lot of opportunities for vacation destinations, and we are looking forward to broadening our travel horizons. Some of our favorite parts of camping are: riding the ATV’s, campfire time, playing cards in the trailers on rainy days, and going fishing.
C&R had our trailer all tuned up and ready to go when we arrived to pick it up. They made sure everything was in good working order. Tina was so excited that C&R offered mouse repellent treatment for the trailer, which has been an awesome thing! The service we have received at C&R, which includes winterizing and getting the trailer ready for spring, has always been efficient and friendly.
Brian and Shanna Masuisui: I can only remember camping one time with my family in my youth. We crammed in a tent and it was freezing cold, but we still talk and laugh about the great memories from that trip! Four years ago, we were looking for something to do as a family where we could avoid crowds but still make memories while our young son was battling cancer. Since then, we have spent many weekends up on “The Mountain” with Grandpa, Grandma, uncles, aunts, and cousins, making memories. We LOVE our Z-1 Crossroads RV from C&R Trailer. It fits our family like a glove. From the bunkhouse for the kids to hang out in, to the table we can all gather around, and the convenience of the outdoor kitchen, we just love it. We couldn’t be happier with the trailer or the service from C&R.
Someone once said that the most beautiful things in life are not things. They’re people, places, memories, and pictures. So…if you need us, you know where we’ll be – on “The Mountain” with the things that matter most!
Justin and Ashley Skinner: We have always been campers. Having our awesome trailer gives us an opportunity to relax and enjoy ourselves rather than worry about setting up tents, etc. It’s so convenient with little children. We love to go to the Uintah mountains or to our family’s property in the mountains of Idaho. We love it when we get together for family reunions and everybody has a trailer. Everyone parks together, and we love the campfires, cooking meals together, and having the essentials you need for little kids. Campfire time is the best time! The guitars and marshmallows come out and there is always lots of funny stories and laughter. We have everything in the trailer and can be comfortable traveling with our children. We have had C&R do some repair work on our trailer and they are the VERY BEST! They always give friendly and efficient service.
Taylor and Kitzia: Camping is new for Kitzia and so we weren’t really sure it would be our thing. Happily, we discovered that it is a wonderful way to spend time together as a family and allow our children the experience of roaming free in the mountains. Our family loves to go to the family property in Idaho. We love spending time with our family away from electronics and other distractions. We took the opportunity to camp during the solar eclipse in August 2017 with the whole family, and it turned out to be such a fun event! We especially enjoy the camping food! Another special time is campfire time. With little children, it is nice to have a space to hang out together and relax in the evenings. Mom likes that everyone can get dirty, but we have a nice, clean place to shower and sleep!
How was your experience with C&R?
Steve: In today’s world it is always nice when you can deal with a company that has integrity. C&R has demonstrated that virtue to us in every way possible. We have dealt with C&R Trailer for the past 8 years or so, having purchased several trailers ourselves, and now in helping steer our children to C&R to purchase their trailers also. If we ever have a problem with ANYTHING, everyone at C&R has been more than willing to find a solution. Ronnie even asked Carolyn if she had DISH network at home, and facilitated having a unit available for the RV so there would be absolutely no reason not to camp. We have found that is it easy to find the cheapest deal somewhere, but it is NOT easy to find good service. C&R has offered both value and excellent service, which in our book, is the best part of the deal. We love that, being residents of Box Elder County for the past ten years, there is a local business like C&R to work with. We highly recommend C&R for all of your camping needs!
A big thank you to the entire Skinner family for taking the time to tell us about their camping traditions! As you scroll through the pictures, the love they have for each other is evident. As Brian and Shanna observed, “Someone once said that the most beautiful things in life are not things. They’re people, places, memories, and pictures.”
I love that this family has each other and “The Mountain”, where they can get away together and spend time “with the things that matter most”!
Here’s to making memories! Are you a happy customer of C&R and would like to share your experience? We are looking for more families to spotlight and would love to hear your story! As a thank you to the Skinners and all of our spotlight families, we will be giving a $50 gift card that can be used toward any parts or services at C&R.
